Web hosting: how to create your own from your hard drive?

  1. You need web hosting software - Apache and Windows IIS being the two most popular. You will also need a web hosting internet account - your standard ISP account will not allow you to host.

  2. It takes way more than just a standard computer, and a standard broadband connection does not have enough bandwidth to host a website. You would need a T1 line and a very beefy computer. It will be cheaper to just use a host like godaddy.com.

  3. You would need business-class Internet access. See what's available from your provider.

DSL is all but useless, since the upload speed is typically very low.

  4. There are too many disadvantages to list why you should not host your website at home. Most hosting services have a 10mb dedicated line at a minimum and they come with 24 hour support so if anything goes wrong they are there to fix it instantly.

I suggest you have a look at http://www.hosting24.com they will register a domain name for free and come with unlimited webspace and unlimited data transfer.

Also when you sign up with them if you enter in a discount code they will give you 25% off their ridiculously cheap hosting plans. code to use is 25OFF

I host all my sites there and have been more than pleased with their help and support, I hope this helps

    Lou
