    Hi Dan,

An extensive database requires a lot of server resources. More specifically, it requires fast hard drives (where the database files are stored), plenty of memory (to cache database queries so performance improves), and multiple processors (to crunch the large amount of data faster).

So, in your search for the best host, you’ll also find yourself having to pick the best server hardware. Definitely stay away from Virtual Private Server (VPS) packages. A VPS is probably not ideal for an extensive database. So performance will eventually suffer in that case.

As far as choosing the best host, I can help you narrow it down a bit. I recommend getting Xeon type processor servers with a large amount of memory (between 4GB-8GB of server RAM) and redundant hard drives (protects from failure).

Xeon processors are top of the line industrial grade processors that are reliable and fast. The more the better! Also, server memory protects the database from possibly getting corrupted (Error Code Correction). Be sure to pick a provider that offers a fully managed service as they will help out with database optimization and provide vital business support.

There are many Web hosts out there. It’s difficult to choose the right one that will suit your needs. But if you follow the above advice you can narrow down the list to a few.

By the way, my name is Joe and I help run two Web hosting businesses (see sources if you’re interested). I hope this answer is useful. Feel free to get in touch if you have any question or comment.

  2. Hey there,

well, a number of things make a good web hosting service:

    - bandwidth
    - disc space
    - support
    - control panel
    - price
    - etc.

I always recommend EcoSnap.com as the best web hosting company.

They rock in every area of hosting and they are green company donating 8% of every hosting dollar they take in.

Plus, you get a free domain with all yearly agreements! Rock on!

Ok, enjoy and I hope you found this helpful.

    Kind regards, Chris

  3. When it comes to picking a paid host one wants to know the following:
    How much pre year?
how responsive, open and how quick are they to answering questions or help?
Do they have helpful add on’s that are of use to you when building a site?

One of the things you did not mention is; what is your database used? Most sites include and encourage their users to use the native database. In this case I use Webmaster.com and their native database used there is Mysql, which is free. The cost and it has not went up in price over 5 years is $119.00.

  4. First, don’t click on any funky looking links in the reply. They are just ads, so ignore them.

As for web hosting, stay away from hosts that are forcing clients to pay for 2-3 years in advance. I personally use Chime Host for web hosting and everything is good so far. If you want the $4.95 monthly rate, you have to contact them to get the special link. You can do that here - https://www.chimehost.com/billing/contact.php

  6. I have had very good service from Maximum ASP (www.maximumasp.com). The main thing you want to look for is not only price but the number of options that will fit what you need.

  7. I will answer w.r.t to the extensive database inventory, if you are having a large database with good amount of queries coming its way, i am sure you would need a host which gives you a good amount of bandwidth and a setup for a business running support. Fatcow.com is running a similar offer at which you can check out at : http://www.kqzyfj.com/mi65uoxuowBFGFIHKKBDCGFKFGE?sid=ya
